Overview
National Data Opt-Out (NDOP) audits let you confirm that patients who opt out of data sharing beyond direct care are excluded from searches, reports and data extracts. These features help you stay compliant with data protection guidelines.
Applying the Opt-Out
Before you begin, confirm NDOP is enabled for your organisation. Once enabled, you can remove opted-out patients from any search or data extract:
- Open Population Reporting and create or edit a search.
- Select the Opt out option to filter patients who have chosen to opt out.
- Provide a clear description of why you are running the search and the recipients (mandatory fields).
"By filtering for NDOP, you quickly exclude any patient who has opted out, preventing unintended disclosure and improving compliance."
If your organisation sets up or updates data-sharing agreements, ensure the NDOP filter applies to relevant extracts. If an extract is already running and needs the NDOP filter, notify the data recipient so they can request an update before restarting the extract.
Running and Viewing an NDOP Audit
- Go to System Tools → Audit Trails → NDOP Audit.
- Choose the filters you need and click Apply.
- Check the results to ensure no opted-out patient data is included in any findings or disclosures.
You can see each data extract that has been filtered using NDOP in the Data Sharing Manager module. This record of excluded patient data helps you demonstrate that you applied NDOP consistently.
