To end a course of medication in EMIS Web and submit a Yellow Card for reporting suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs), follow these steps:
Ending a Course of Medication
1. Access the Medication screen by selecting Care Record from the EMIS Web menu and choosing Medication.
2. If no patient is currently selected, use Patient Find to choose the relevant patient.
3. Locate the medication you wish to end, right-click it, and select End Course.
4. The End Course screen will appear. Here, select the checkbox next to Adverse Reaction if applicable. Use the Code Selector to identify the reaction.
Submitting a Yellow Card
If you choose to submit a Yellow Card immediately:
- Select the Submit a Yellow Card checkbox and choose Now. Confirm by clicking OK.
- The New Yellow Card screen will open, pre-populated with the selected drug information. Complete the report with details of the adverse reaction and submit it to the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency).
If opting to do it later, select Later (Creates User Task). This creates a task reminding you to complete the Yellow Card submission via the Workflow Manager.
Utilising the Yellow Card reporting system helps ensure patient safety and contributes to the ongoing monitoring of drug safety across healthcare settings.
Accurate reporting through this system enables the identification of previously unreported side effects or concerns associated with medications, significantly enhancing the safe delivery of care.
