Care record sharing (QF1091) and using Remote Consultations from EMIS Web Clinical Services are functionalities designed to enhance the sharing and accessibility of patient information within and across healthcare settings, though they serve distinct purposes.
Care Record Sharing
Care record sharing allows healthcare providers within a network, such as a Primary Care Network (PCN) Hub, to access the patient’s medical history recorded by their registered GP practices. This access is facilitated through Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs), which must be completed and signed by the involved parties. These agreements ensure that the necessary permissions are granted, enabling practitioners to view comprehensive patient records to deliver coordinated care. Care record sharing is particularly useful for enabling the seamless exchange of detailed medical records, which can include historical and ongoing treatment data.
Remote Consultations
Remote Consultations enable clinicians to conduct patient assessments and treatments remotely by accessing the patient’s GP medical records directly from the PCN Hub over EMIS Clinical Services. This service utilises enterprise agreements, like Remote Consultation and Consultation Write Back, to allow clinicians to view and update patient records while conducting consultations off-site. With Remote Consultations, healthcare providers can issue Fit Notes, and handle electronic prescriptions or blood requests directly in the system without needing additional administrative tasks or patient demographic imports.
"Remote Consultations allow for efficient access and updating of patient records, eliminating the need for physical patient files and reducing the administrative burden."
While care record sharing focuses on enabling multiple providers within the network to access shared medical information, Remote Consultations facilitate the direct management and update of records, ensuring that patient consultations conducted remotely are fully integrated into their primary care record.
