Enabling SMS reminders
To integrate SMS reminders with your appointment book, first ensure your organisation has enabled SMS features. Open Appointments Configuration via the ribbon and locate Organisation Options. Under Notification / SMS Reminders, specify how many days in advance (between two and seven) the reminder will be sent.
Once enabled, text reminders are automatically sent to patients who have opted in and have valid mobile numbers. Check that each Slot Type allows SMS by selecting Send SMS (if your organisation is configured for messaging). Patients’ mobile details update automatically from the Book Slot screen, so ensure every booking includes the correct phone number.
Automatically reminding patients about upcoming appointments can significantly reduce "Did Not Attend" instances, saving time for busy practices and enhancing patient care.
Practical tips
- Valid numbers: Mobile numbers must start with 07 and contain 11 digits.
- Check user permissions: Ensure your role profile includes relevant RBAC activities (for example, B0560) to configure and manage notifications.
- Review lead times: In Organisation Options, set reminders to go out 2–7 days before the appointment.
- Update patient details: Confirm contact preferences and data consent for notifications.
