Hero Health - EMIS Web Support Guide

How to handle emergency appointments in EMIS Web?

Appointments
Beginner

Emergency appointments in EMIS Web are typically unplanned and need rapid allocation. The following steps will help you accommodate urgent cases:

Set an urgent slot

When you spot an immediate medical need, you can define specific slots as urgent to make them easier to identify:

  • Edit slot properties: Right-click the chosen slot, select Slot Properties, and set the slot to Urgent.
  • This ensures staff see it at a glance, helping to prioritise emergencies and preventing accidental double-booking unless truly necessary.

Squeeze in or add a slot

If you’ve no empty slots available:

  • Squeeze In: Right-click an existing slot and select Squeeze In. EMIS Web adds a smaller, extra slot between two existing appointments.
  • Add slot to the end: Extend the session’s schedule to place an emergency slot at the end of the list. This allows you to accommodate unforeseen urgent visits without disrupting booked timings.

Double-book if essential

When two patients need to be seen at the same time, for instance in acute cases:

  • Right-click the slot and book the second patient. EMIS Web will prompt you before double-booking to avoid errors.
By marking urgent slots and making them visible to the whole team, you can rapidly respond to patient crises, saving time and preventing potential delays.
