Managing walk-in appointments in EMIS Web

When a patient arrives unexpectedly, you can accommodate them directly in the Appointment Book by adding or adjusting slots in three main ways:

  • Double-book an existing slot: If the session is fully booked but you only need a brief consultation, simply book the new arrival into an already-booked slot. EMIS Web will prompt you that the slot is occupied, but you can add another patient if it suits your workflow.
  • Squeeze in a slot: Right-click on an existing slot and select Squeeze In to create a new slot between two booked appointments without extending the overall session length. This is handy for quick assessments or short consultations.
  • Book an unregistered patient: If you have a walk-in who is not on your patient list, choose Book unregistered patient to capture minimal demographic details for the appointment. This can be updated if the patient is later registered fully.
Booking walk-in slots quickly can keep your schedule running smoothly and ensure no patient is turned away unexpectedly.

Once you’ve added or adjusted the slot, mark the patient’s status as arrived to keep a clear record of who is waiting. If needed, you can also send them in for consultation immediately, or hold them in the waiting status until you’re ready.
