Searching by partial details
You can use Patient Find (F5) in EMIS Web to locate patients even if you only know part of their name or address. For instance, you can type “Jo Jo” to find “John John,” or just part of the address (e.g. “Chorl” for “Chorley Road”). Combine partial name or address details if you need to narrow the results further.
How to search
- Press F5 or click Find Patient on the Quick Access Toolbar.
- In the left search field, enter partial text for the patient’s name, date of birth, NHS number, or EMIS number.
- In the right search field, you can add a house number, street name, postcode, or phone number, again using partial text if needed.
- You’ll see a list of matching patients. Select the correct patient and click OK to load their record.
Tips and benefits
- Partial searches help you find the correct record quickly when the full details are unclear.
- Colour coding helps you identify a patient’s status: black for active, blue for inactive, red for deceased.
- Use partial searching to handle common names or addresses and save time for busy staff.
- Ensure you have the correct patient before proceeding to avoid patient context errors.
