Hero Health - EMIS Web Support Guide

How do I find a patient in EMIS Web?

Using EMIS
Beginner

Use Patient Find by pressing F5 on your keyboard or selecting Find Patient on the Quick Access Toolbar. In the search box, type all or part of the patient’s name, date of birth, NHS number, or phone number. You can narrow the results further by including house name, street, or postcode.

Refine your search if you have too many results. Partial matches are highlighted, so if you only remember half of a name, EMIS Web helps you spot the right patient.

Check patient status colour-coding: active patients usually appear in black. Deceased status shows in red. Double-check the patient’s details before opening the record to protect privacy and ensure accuracy.

If you have the correct role permissions, you can select Include patients outside my organisation to perform a wider search known as Patient Trace.

Selection tips:

  • After finding your patient, click OK to set them as the current record.
  • If searching by NHS number or EMIS ID, you’ll jump straight to the correct patient (no need to select from a list).
  • If no match is found, consider adjusting spellings or adding more details.
