Overview
The Patient Précis provides a quick snapshot of patient information at the top of the screen. You can easily verify demographics, check warnings or alerts, and view important icons such as confidentiality restrictions or child health warnings.
Accessing and Navigating
When you select a patient, their précis bar is shown below the ribbon. To switch between the NHS number and EMIS number, right-click the bar and select the relevant option. The colour-coded bar shows if a patient is active (blue), deceased (red), or inactive (grey). Hover over or right-click elements for quick actions.
Expanding the Patient Précis
Double-click anywhere on the précis or click the chevron on the left to expand it. You’ll see additional details including:
- Address and contact details
- Links to view the address on a map
- Household information
- Allergies and warnings
- Usual GP or practice details
- Next of Kin details (if available)
Double-click again to collapse and return to a compact view.
Managing Warnings and Alerts
Under the Warnings section, select Manage to add or update patient warnings. You can set triggers, such as swapping patients or adding drugs, to ensure staff see critical warnings at the right time. Keep warnings accurate by removing those that are out-of-date.
Copying Key Details
If you need patient information for letters or other documents, right-click an individual detail to copy it directly. Select Copy Details to choose multiple fields at once. This ensures quick and consistent record-keeping.
