Data sharing preferences are a crucial element in managing patient referrals within EMIS Web. These preferences determine how a patient's care records are shared across different healthcare organisations, ensuring comprehensive care coordination.
Understanding Data Sharing Preferences
For data sharing to be effective in EMIS Web, two conditions must be met:
- Patient Consent: The patient must have consented, either explicitly or implied, to share their care records with organisations that provide them care.
- Organisational Agreement: Your healthcare organisation must have a sharing agreement with the relevant external organisations.
To update these preferences, navigate to the Referrals section within the patient's Care Record. Use the Sharing option in the ribbon to select EMIS Sharing Consent, where you can manage the patient's sharing options.
"Configuring data sharing preferences ensures timely and accurate access to patient information, streamlining the referral process and enhancing patient care integration. This can save significant administrative time for practice staff."
If sharing preferences are not configured properly, critical updates and records may not be visible to other care providers involved in the patient's treatment, potentially affecting the referral outcome.
For practices aiming to optimise referral management, integrating with platforms like Hero Health can be advantageous. Hero's care navigation triage functionality enables patients to provide essential information directly via your practice website, directing their needs efficiently and reducing administrative burdens.
