Creating a standard outbound referral in EMIS Web streamlines the process of referring patients to external organisations, such as hospitals. This ensures that communications are accurate and timely, a critical component in offering comprehensive patient care.

Steps to Create a Standard Outbound Referral

  • Access the EMIS Web menu, point to Care Record, then select Referrals.
  • On the ribbon, click Add and choose Standard Outbound Referral.
  • Complete the details on the Outbound Referral screen, ensuring all mandatory fields (marked with a red asterisk) are filled.
  • In the Referral Letter field, choose between:
    • Create Now: Select a letter template, add relevant information, and choose to print, save, or create the letter as a task for another user in Workflow Manager.
    • Create Letter Task For User/Team: Assign the letter task to a specific user or team. The referral is only sent once the task is completed.
  • Click OK to add the referral to the Outbound Referrals section and send it to the target organisation.

"Standard outbound referrals not only ensure seamless transfer of care but also enhance the administrative efficiency by providing a clear trail of referral actions and intents."
