To send a fit note via email to a patient using EMIS Web, you need to follow these steps:

Accessing the Fit Note

Ensure the patient's email address is current and secure before you proceed. Access the patient's Care Record on EMIS Web. From there, navigate to Consultations and select the consultation where the fit note was generated.

Sending the Fit Note

On the consultation's ribbon, click Add and then select Add Fit Note. Complete the required fields on the Fit Note Form screen. Once the fit note is ready, click Send via Email. This action opens your default email client with the fit note attached as a PDF, using the document title as the subject line.

"Sending fit notes via email can significantly reduce administrative tasks and paperwork, allowing more time for patient care and improving communication efficiency."

Considerations and Precautions

  • Always verify that the email address used belongs to the intended patient to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure that emails are sent from the practice’s email programme, not personal accounts, to preserve professional integrity and data protection.
  • Clearly indicate in the email subject and body that it contains the patient's fit note.
  • If your practice has access to encrypted email services, use these to enhance security further.
