Managing test request assignments in EMIS Web is an essential task for ensuring that test samples are handled efficiently and results are delivered promptly. Here’s how you can configure and manage these assignments for teams and users.
Configuring Test Request Assignments
In EMIS Web, test requests can be added directly in the Care Record or during Consultations. Once a test request is generated, you can assign it to a specific team or user. This assignment directs the request to the appropriate inbox where responsibilities are clearly defined.
To assign a test request:
- Open the Test Request screen.
- Choose either 'Sample Taken' if the sample has been collected, or 'Sample Later' if not.
- For a collection later, click the 'Assign to' field to select a team or user from the Find Teams or Users screen.
Managing Assignments Effectively
Assignments can be customised based on your organisation's workflow settings. This includes setting default recipients for test request tasks through the Workflow Manager Configuration. Depending on your default settings, the assignment field might display a specific user/direct team automatically, or allow manual selection.
Efficient assignment of test requests can significantly improve turnaround time, thereby enhancing the overall quality of patient care.
In practice, a clear assignment not only ensures accountability but also maintains an updated status of the test requests, as they move through the stages of Awaiting Sample, or Pending Results.

Hero Health offers advanced features that can complement EMIS Web, such as Care navigation & triage. This allows patients to provide information directly through a website, which can then be routed to the appropriate care pathways.
