Cancelling an electronic prescription is crucial when changes or errors occur after it has been downloaded. To carry out a cancellation, follow these steps:
Steps to Cancel an Electronic Prescription
- Access Medication: Launch EMIS Web and navigate to the Medication section via the Care Record.
- Select the Prescription: Find the electronic prescription you wish to cancel by searching for the patient and accessing their medication record.
- Cancel the Prescription: Locate the specific prescription you need to cancel and select the cancellation option. You may need to provide a reason for the cancellation during this process.
- Confirm Cancellation: Confirm your intention to cancel the prescription. The prescription will be immediately marked as cancelled in the system, preventing it from being dispensed at the pharmacy.
"By efficiently cancelling electronic prescriptions in EMIS Web, practice administrators can maintain accurate medication records and ensure the correct prescriptions are issued to patients, ultimately enhancing patient safety and care."
Once a prescription is cancelled, ensure you communicate effectively with the patient so they understand the reason for the cancellation, and, if necessary, issue a new prescription with the correct medication details.
