If your dispensary is not currently compliant with the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), it is essential to understand the alternative processes for managing prescriptions. Below are the steps that a dispensing practice should follow:
Continue Standard Prescription Process
- Dispensing patients will continue to be registered with your practice and will receive printed FP10 prescriptions as before. Ensure that the Dispensing field in the patient's registration is set to ‘Yes’.
- It is advisable to have a conversation with your dispensing patients to confirm that they are comfortable receiving printed prescriptions or if they wish to nominate a different EPS-compliant dispensing organisation.
Patient Options
- Inform patients that while receiving prescriptions through EPS is not mandatory, they have the option to change their prescriptions to a digitally enabled dispensary if they prefer.
- Should a patient wish to switch for a one-off prescription via an EPS Phase 4 token, use the Change All option to select EPS - any pharmacy at the prescription issuance point.
