Adding and issuing an electronic prescription token in EMIS Web involves a few straightforward steps that enhance efficiency by reducing paperwork and streamlining the prescribing process. Here's how to do it:
Adding an Electronic Prescription Token
- Access the Medication section via the Care Record on the EMIS Web menu.
- If a patient isn't selected, choose one. On the Medication screen, click on Add Drug.
- Enter the drug's name; options for that drug, including dosage and quantity, will display as you type.
- Select the needed item, ensuring to populate the dosage and quantity fields either by choosing past entries or entering new details.
Issuing an Electronic Prescription Token
- Once the Medication screen is open, navigate to the Issue screen.
- Review all warnings, select a stamp doctor if needed, and handle any required reauthorisations.
- Specify if the prescription should be Immediate or Routine based on its urgency.
- Choose Print token if you want to print the prescription token; otherwise, the prescription details will be stored in the Potential EPS Tokens section for future needs.
- Click on Approve and Complete after reviewing all patient and issue details.
- Enter your PIN to digitally sign the prescription, which will then be sent to the EPS and, if configured, a token will be printed.
The use of electronic prescription tokens allows for improved security and efficiency in prescription management, minimising the risk of lost scripts and enhancing provider workflows.
Utilising this complete electronic prescribing setup ensures better tracking and reduced manual handling, benefiting both healthcare providers and patients alike.
