The e-Referral Service (eRS) in EMIS Web allows clinicians to create, manage, and send referrals efficiently. Below is a guide on creating an e-Referral using the e-Referral Service:
Accessing the e-Referral Service
To begin the e-Referral process, ensure you are logged into EMIS Web using a smartcard, as this is required to access the eRS features. Navigate to Consultations via the EMIS Web menu under Care Record. Select the appropriate patient if one is not already chosen.
Creating an e-Referral
- On the Consultations screen, click Add and choose Consultation.
- In the Consultation Mode screen, select Referral and choose NHS e-Referral with the relevant priority (Routine, Urgent, or Two Week Rule).
- The eRS portal will open within EMIS Web, where you can select the necessary service and generate a UBRN (Unique Booking Reference Number).
Completing the Referral
Once the UBRN is generated, select your desired service and decide whether to continue or defer the referral process. You may also assign tasks to an administrator to create a comprehensive referral letter by selecting Create Letter Task For in the NHS e-RS Referral screen, or choose Create Now to handle it immediately.
Creating e-Referrals using the eRS may streamline the referral process. By integrating referral letters directly into the patient's care record, users can ensure consistent and complete clinical information, improving communication between services and optimising patient management.
Managing Referrals with Integrated Letters
You can create integrated referral letters through the NHS e-Referral Letter screen. This allows easy addition of attachments like PDFs and a range of clinical data. These letters keep both referring and receiving clinicians on the same page, improving care coordination.
