In the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), nominations guide where a patient's prescriptions are sent. Understanding the differences between primary, Dispensing Appliance Contractor (DAC), and Dispensing Doctor nominations is crucial for efficient prescription management.

Primary Pharmacy Nomination

The primary pharmacy nomination is the default option where a patient’s prescriptions are electronically sent to a nominated community pharmacy. This nomination ensures seamless prescription management, allowing patients to collect their medications from their preferred pharmacy without having to handle paper prescriptions or tokens.

Dispensing Appliance Contractor (DAC) Nomination

For prescriptions involving medical appliances, a DAC nomination is used. This nomination is tailored for contractor services focusing on supplying medical appliances better suited than a traditional pharmacy. When a prescription needs to utilize the DAC, users can select "Use DAC" during medication issuing.

Dispensing Doctor Nomination

In certain cases, patients can nominate their GP’s practice to dispense their medication directly, which is particularly helpful in rural areas where pharmacy access might be limited. This nomination needs to be specifically set and retained during patient registration.

"Ensuring accurate EPS nominations can dramatically reduce prescription management time, eliminating the need for paper tokens and enhancing patient convenience."

Managing Nominations

Nominations can be added or changed in EMIS Web through the Medication section. Patients are free to update their nominations any time to reflect changes in their needs or travel plans, ensuring they always have the most convenient access to their medications.

It's important to regularly review and confirm a patient's nomination during registration processes to maintain accurate records and improve the prescription process efficiency.
