In EMIS Web, patients can express their consent or dissent for having a Summary Care Record (SCR) shared beyond their general practice. The Summary Care Record Programme gives patients the ability to control who can access their medical records outside of their general practice, ensuring that their preferences are respected throughout the NHS network.
Consent Categories
Patients can choose from the following consent options:
- Implied Consent: By default, consent is implied unless a patient actively communicates a different preference. This allows the upload of both core and additional SCR information.
- Express Consent for Core SCR: The patient agrees to share their core SCR only. Only essential medical details are included.
- Express Consent for Core and Additional SCR: Both essential details and additional medical information are shared.
- Express Dissent: The patient opts out of SCR entirely, meaning no information is uploaded.
Updating Consent Preferences
To update a patient's consent preferences in EMIS Web:
- Access the Patient Consent Preference screen for the required patient.
- Select the new consent preference relevant to the patient.
- Document the reason for any change in the consent preference.
- Confirm and update the patient’s records accordingly.
Tip: Keeping a patient's SCR consent up-to-date not only helps in maintaining the accuracy of shared information but also supports the privacy preferences of patients, thereby enhancing trust.
