The ability for medical staff to access and manage a patient's Individual Health Record (IHR) sharing preferences in EMIS Web is essential for maintaining optimal patient privacy and data accessibility. It enhances care delivery and allows for informed decision-making during critical moments, especially outside usual GP surgery hours.
Accessing IHR Sharing Preferences
To manage a patient's IHR sharing preferences, navigate through the EMIS Web interface as follows:
- From the EMIS Web Menu, point to Care Record, then select any Care Record screen except Medication.
- If no patient is currently selected, you'll be prompted to choose one.
- On the ribbon, click Sharing and choose IHR Sharing.
In the Patient Consent Preference screen, you can select whether the patient consents to share their detailed record or not.
How to Set IHR Sharing Choices
- If a patient consents to IHR sharing, select the option allowing the detailed record to be shared. This decision will be indicated on the Care Record Summary screen as data included in the Shared Record.
- For patients who dissent from IHR sharing, select the option opting them out. The Care Record Summary screen will highlight this decision in red to indicate non-consent.
- You have the flexibility to enable or disable IHR Sharing temporarily on clinical grounds following the same pathway.
Decisive control over IHR sharing can substantially enhance a practice's capacity to deliver responsive and personalised care, particularly in emergency settings where access to accurate patient data is critical.
The Importance of Managing IHR Preferences
IHR sharing preferences are not just a technical setting; they're a cornerstone of responsible data management and patient empowerment. Clinicians have the opportunity to ensure that sensitive information is appropriately accessed, enhancing patient trust and care outcomes.
