Hero Health - EMIS Web Support Guide

Does Consultation Write Back automatically enable EPS in EMIS Web, or are additional steps required?

Consultation Write Back in EMIS Web is not linked to the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) activation. To enable EPS, additional steps must be taken beyond just enabling Consultation Write Back.

EPS is activated by ensuring several criteria are met:

  • EMIS Web Clinical Services must have a Y Code (Prescribing Cost Centre) in its National Code Field.
  • The Prescribing Cost Centre code requires activation on the NHS Spine by NHS Digital.
  • A Prescribing GP must have a Spurious Code in their EMIS User account.
  • They must also have a Smartcard with the appropriate Role.
  • Ensure that the organisation's details in EMIS have a full address and telephone number.
  • Patients need to be synchronised with the PDS (blue PDS symbol in EMIS).

“Implementing EPS enhances workflow efficiency and security, reducing the burden of handling paper prescriptions and speeding up the administrative process.”
