To successfully send a GP2GP large message, the following steps need to be taken:
- Registration: When a patient registers at a new practice, this practice becomes the Requesting organisation, while the old practice is the Sending organisation.
- Requesting Records: The Requesting organisation sends a request for the patient’s medical records from the Sending organisation. The system checks if the patient’s record requires large messaging based on the size and number of attachments.
- Large Messaging Verification: The Sending organisation will verify whether the Requesting organisation is capable of handling large messages. If not, the process stops, and an unsent records notification is created.
- Data Transfer: If both organisations support large messaging, the patient record is split into smaller chunks for transfer. The Requesting organisation acknowledges receipt of each chunk to the Sending organisation.
- Integration and Acknowledgement: After all data chunks are received, the Requesting organisation integrates the complete patient record and sends a final acknowledgement to confirm successful receipt and integration.
GP2GP's large messaging capability enhances efficiency by ensuring that even large data files can be transmitted smoothly, avoiding delays and keeping patient records complete and up-to-date.
Should you encounter issues with the GP2GP process, practical organisational steps include ensuring all practice systems are routinely checked for capability or issues that may impede the large message process.
