Essential Roles and Permissions

To override a confidentiality policy in EMIS Web, you must have the B0070 Access Patient Sealed Data activity assigned in your role profile. This permission is critical because it authorises you to view restricted areas of a patient’s record that would normally remain sealed.

How It Works

When you attempt to open a record with a confidentiality policy, EMIS Web checks your role profile. If you have B0070 Access Patient Sealed Data, you can complete the Override Confidentiality Policy screen. Once confirmed, you can view and edit the previously restricted items for the remainder of your session.

In practices with strict confidentiality policies, having the right RBAC permissions helps authorised staff quickly access urgent or sensitive data, saving time and protecting patient privacy.

Practical Steps

  • Ensure your EMIS Web user profile includes the B0070 Access Patient Sealed Data activity.
  • Double-click the patient with a restricted record. A pop-up allows you to override the policy.
  • Complete the override form to access the sealed data. Notifications are automatically sent to the user who originally applied the policy.
