When prescribing in EMIS Web, it is important to include all necessary details to ensure accurate dispensing and patient understanding. Patient and pharmacy information are integral components of a prescription and can be added directly through the EMIS Web interface.
Accessing Prescription Information
To include patient or pharmacy information on a prescription, navigate to the Add a Drug screen within the Medication module. Here, alongside adding medication specifics like dosage and quantity, you can add supplementary prescribing details.
1. Including Pharmacy Information
Pharmacy information can be entered in the Optional Prescription Information section. This information will be printed on the left-hand side of the prescription and applies to the entire medication course. To access this:
- Click the rocker arrows icon next to Optional Prescription Information.
- Enter any relevant notes or instructions.
2. Including Patient Information
Similarly, patient-specific notes can be added to the right-hand side of the prescription using the same process. This can be particularly useful for including reminders or dosage instructions that the patient should follow throughout their course of treatment.
Adding patient and pharmacy information directly on the prescription fosters better communication and understanding between the healthcare provider, pharmacist, and patient, thus enhancing the safety and efficacy of the treatment.
For clinicians and administrators, ensuring that correct and clear information is available on prescriptions not only improves patient outcomes but also saves time that might otherwise be spent clarifying instructions post-issuance.
