Issuing Medication in EMIS Web
To begin issuing medication in EMIS Web, access the patient's medication record by navigating to the Care Record and selecting Medication. If a patient isn't already selected, you will need to find one using Patient Find.
Steps to Issue Medication
- Select Existing or New Medication: On the Medication screen, choose a medication from the Current Medication list and click Issue if issuing existing medication, or access the Add a Drug screen for new medications.
- Authorise and Complete: You may need to reauthorise medications or address any warnings before you can proceed with issuing them. The Approve and Complete option is available once reauthorisation is confirmed, prompting you to enter your smartcard PIN.
- Deal with Alerts: Address any warnings or alerts related to drug interactions or contraindications. High and medium severity alerts must be actioned.
- Pharmacy and Patient Messages: Add tailored messages for the pharmacy or the patient that apply to the current issue. These messages can communicate specific instructions or information relevant to the medication being issued.
- Complete the Issue: Authorised prescribers should click Approve and Complete to finalise the prescription, or utilise the Request option to seek approval if you are a non-prescriber.
