Linking medication to problems in EMIS Web

When prescribing new medication, you can link it to an existing problem so that everyone reviewing the record can clearly see how the medication relates to the patient’s overall care. If the medication is already issued, you can also link it afterwards.

Link new medication:

  • Add new medication from the usual prescribing workflow.
  • Select the Problems tab on the Add a Drug screen.
  • Choose the suitable problem from the list and click Link.

Tip: If you add medication inside a consultation that includes a problem, it’s automatically linked.

Link existing (issued) medication:

  • From Problems:
    • Go to Care Record > Problems and select the relevant problem.
    • In Linked Medication within the Detailed View, click Edit Links.
    • Select the medication you wish to link and click OK.
  • From Medication:
    • Go to Care Record > Medication and click Link Problems on the ribbon.
    • Drag the required medication from the left panel to the chosen problem on the right panel.
    • Click OK.

Linking medication to the correct problem can help keep detailed patient records clear, reducing confusion and saving you time in the long run.

Printing linked problems on prescriptions:

You're able to configure whether linked problem details appear on printed prescriptions. Bear in mind that printing problem information could expose sensitive details to others, so consider information governance before enabling.
