Updating Patient Contact Details

EMIS Web supports automatic email and mobile updates from the NHS app. When a patient updates these details in the NHS app, the information is passed into EMIS Web, ensuring that the practice always holds the most up-to-date contact information.

Enabling Auto-update

  • Go to Organisation Configuration in EMIS Web.
  • Select the relevant organisation and click Edit.
  • Set Auto-update patient details with PDS (mobile and/or email) changes? to Yes.
  • Log out and back in to finalise the change.

If auto-update is not enabled, changes are flagged as PDS differences for manual review. Either way, email and mobile updates made in the NHS app flow into EMIS Web, typically overnight.

Practices that allow automatic contact detail updates often see fewer manual administrative tasks and improved data quality, leading to greater accuracy in patient communications.

Did you know? Keeping contact details accurate enhances patient communication. If you're interested in improving messaging workflows, Hero Health integrates with EMIS Web to help reduce administrative load:

  • Send individual messages with attachments or one-time reply links.
  • Use batch messaging for larger patient cohorts.
