In the GP2GP process, certain items in a patient's electronic health record are not automatically included in the transfer. Some of these exclusions are due to the uniqueness of business processes and workflows at the sending organisation, while others are items that lack a universal clinical consensus on their utility or appropriateness to transfer.
Items Typically Excluded from GP2GP Transfers
- Internal workflows and processes specific to the sending organisation, such as task reminders or custom business processes.
- Clinical items like test requests and planned medication review dates.
- Any records or notes that are configured within the organisation's system but are not relevant to clinical care exchange.
- Organisation-specific alerts or warnings that are not configured to communicate with the recipient's system.
Addressing Omissions in GP2GP Transfers
To manage any omissions within the GP2GP transferred records, users are advised to access the Workflow Manager in EMIS Web and follow these steps:
- Identify Missing Items: Navigate to the Records Received section and cross-reference with existing records to ascertain if any clinically significant items are missing.
- Manual Addition: For omitted data that remains clinically significant, consult the paper records or contact the previous GP practice if needed to fill in any gaps within the patient's care record.
GP2GP eases administrative burdens and reduces the potential for errors inherent in paper records. Clinicians benefit from a streamlined workflow and immediate access to crucial health records while ensuring that sensitive patient data hasn't been omitted during transfers.
