What is the difference between a slot and a slot type on EMIS Web

Slots are the specific appointment times displayed in the EMIS Web Appointment Book. Each slot can be individually modified (for example, splitting or merging) to accommodate varying clinic or patient needs. Slots are where you actually book (or move) a patient appointment.

Slot Types define the nature of those slots. They control how an appointment is categorised, for instance as a telephone call, face-to-face consultation, or a non-clinical meeting. Slot types can determine the default duration, colours, and whether a slot is bookable through Patient Access. This clear categorisation helps identify the right kind of time slot at a glance and can speed up the scheduling process.

By setting Slot Types carefully, administrators can streamline the booking process, ensuring each appointment slot is correctly allocated and easy to recognise.

If you want to offer direct self-service booking options for certain slot types, you can configure them to be visible for patients using online platforms.
