Overview
GP Connect Send Document allows a PCN hub to forward an encounter summary (consultation) to a patient’s registered GP. This can be especially helpful for extended hours or out-of-area support. It ensures vital information is shared promptly and can streamline administrative work by reducing manual document transfer.
Essential prerequisites
- ODS code in place – Helps identify your PCN hub within national systems.
- MESH mailbox enabled – Ensures you can send and receive secure clinical documents.
- Valid smartcards & PDS setup – Required for patient synchronisation to the Spine.
- Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) – Must be completed before signing agreements.
- National Data Sharing Agreement signed – Essential for GP Connect compliance.
Once these steps are complete, you can request GP Connect Send Document activation from your EMIS Account Director. For routine use, configure external patient types in Organisation Configuration so any relevant consultation is automatically sent to the patient’s GP.
“Since enabling GP Connect Send Document, our PCN hub has reported faster turnaround in sending consultation summaries, reducing admin time and improving data accuracy for registered GP records.”
