When adding a new medication to a patient's record in EMIS Web, dosage calculation is streamlined to save time for clinicians. Here's how it works:
Quick Steps for Dosage Calculation
In the 'Add Drug' screen, begin by typing the name of the medication. Select the desired option from the list of suggested drugs, which includes both generic and trade names. As you type, frequently prescribed drugs appear higher on the list, making them easier to locate.
Automatically Populated Dosages
Once a medication is selected, if an EMIS authored dosage is available, it will be presented in black text. This dosage won't auto-populate any quantity or duration. You must enter these details to ensure accuracy of prescription instructions. Conversely, user-created dosages, appearing in blue, will auto-populate both dosage and quantity, drastically decreasing time spent on future prescriptions.
Tip: Utilising blue, user-created dosages ensures automatic calculation of both dosage and quantity, enhancing efficiency, especially for repeat prescriptions.
Manual Dosage Entry
If none of the EMIS authored dosages meet your needs, you can input a manual dosage. The system prompts you for a specific quantity once your custom dosage is entered. After it's issued, this manual dose is saved as a user-created dosage for subsequent use.
In summary, EMIS Web offers a flexible system for dosage calculations that caters both to standard practice with EMIS authored doses and allows for custom entries. This smart functionality not only ensures prescriptions are accurate but also saves time across repeated tasks.
