When handling drug allergies and prescribing prevention in EMIS Web, particularly with degraded drug allergies from transferred records, certain steps must be followed to ensure clinical safety and the continuity of care.
Accessing GP2GP transferred records
After a patient's record is transferred with GP2GP, access the GP2GP section in the Workflow Manager. Here, you will find degrade tasks under sections such as Medication Authorisation and Allergy Degrade.
Handling Drug Allergy Degrades
If drug allergies in a transferred record cannot be matched by EMIS Web to an equivalent clinical term, they will be marked as 'degraded'. This can result from differences in clinical code terminology between systems.
To safeguard against incorrect prescriptions, prescribing is automatically disabled until all degraded drug allergy entries are reviewed and re-coded in the system.
To manage drug allergy degrades:
- Open the Workflow Manager.
- Select Allergy Degrade in the navigation pane to review pending tasks.
- View each degraded allergy entry, and replace it with the appropriate EMIS Web code. If the entry is incorrect and not clinically relevant, it's safe to remove it.
- Once all degraded allergy entries are resolved, prescribing functionality is reinstated for that patient.
The efficient and accurate processing of degrade tasks is crucial for maintaining an error-free patient record and ensuring the safety of prescribed medications.
