Interpreting the GP Connect message status icons
The Status column in the Consultation or Document screens shows how far a consultation message has progressed in being sent back to the patient’s registered GP using GP Connect Send Document.
Queued
This icon appears when a consultation has been saved but not yet sent. You have up to three hours to make changes without sending a new message. If you edit after three hours, EMIS Web automatically creates a new version of the message, which re-queues the consultation.
Sent
This status confirms the message left your organisation and was directed to the patient’s GP practice. You can click the status to view details, such as the date and time sent.
Received
This status indicates the GP practice’s system has acknowledged receiving the message. You can click the status to view additional information about when it was received or if any warnings were returned.
Error
An error icon indicates a failed message. Hover over the icon to see any error codes or descriptions. Common causes include PDS mismatches (for example, incorrect patient details) or the patient not being registered at a GP practice in the NHS Spine. Correct the details, then attempt to resend if appropriate.
Some practices find that quickly reviewing the status icons helps staff save time and effort, as any issues with sending or registration can be addressed earlier, preventing delays in care.
